NBI Online Appointment & Clearance

Getting an NBI clearance is essential for job applications, visas, and travel. No NBI Online Appointment means no service — ensure your slot is secured before visiting any branch nationwide.

We cover everything in one place. How to set your NBI online appointment from scratch. How to use Quick Renewal without visiting a branch. What documents to bring? What actually happens if you get a HIT or miss your slot? And a branch-by-branch breakdown for cities like Davao, Iloilo, Cebu, Baguio, CDO, Tuguegarao, and more—all using the same national portal.

Pro Tip: Ensure you have your primary IDs ready before starting the online registration to avoid session timeouts.

What Is an NBI Appointment and Why Does It Matter

The NBI appointment system is the online scheduling service managed by the National Bureau of Investigation — an agency under the Department of Justice (DOJ) of the Philippines. Through the official portal at clearance.nbi.gov.ph, applicants reserve a specific date, time, and branch to appear in person for photo capture, fingerprinting, and clearance processing.

The system covers new applicants, clearance renewal applicants, and those applying for special purposes such as apostille authentication or clearance for overseas use.

Without a confirmed booking, no NBI branch in the country will accommodate you. Walk-ins are no longer allowed — this applies to major city branches and provincial offices alike.

NBI Branch Operating Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except public holidays.

How to Book an NBI Online Appointment

There are two ways to access the booking system: through the main portal at clearance.nbi.gov.ph or through www.nbi.gov.ph. Both lead to the same interface. For first-time job seekers, visit firsttimejobseekers.nbi.gov.ph.

Step 1: Go to the Official NBI Portal

Open any browser and go to clearance.nbi.gov.ph. Make sure the URL begins with HTTPS and shows the official government domain. Do not use unofficial third-party websites — many of them impersonate the NBI portal, charge extra fees, and collect your personal data without authorization.

If you are a new user, click Register. If you already have an account, click Log In and enter your credentials.

Step 2: Create Your NBI Account

Fill out the NBI online registration form with:

  • Full legal name (exactly as on your government ID — including Jr., Sr., or suffixes)
  • Date of birth and place of birth
  • Current and permanent address
  • Civil status
  • Purpose of clearance (employment, travel, government transaction, etc.)
  • A valid, active email address
  • A mobile number that can receive an OTP

After submitting, the system sends a One-Time Password (OTP) to your registered mobile number. Enter it to verify and activate your account. Without OTP verification, your registration stays incomplete.

Tip: Use an email address you actively check. The NBI portal sends your appointment confirmation, payment receipts, and status updates to this inbox.

Step 3: Fill Out the NBI Appointment Form

Once logged in, click Apply for Clearance and complete your application form. This includes personal details, contact information, and the purpose of clearance.

At this stage, you will also be asked to select the valid IDs you plan to bring to your appointment. The system locks in your selection. Bring exactly those IDs on the day arriving with different ones can cause delays or rejection at the counter.

Why this matters: The NBI cross-references the IDs you selected during booking against what you present at the branch. A mismatch creates unnecessary complications.

Step 4: Choose Your NBI Branch, Date, and Time

The system shows a calendar of available dates for your chosen branch. Dates highlighted in blue are available; dates in red are fully booked or closed.

Choose:

  • Your preferred NBI branch (any branch nationwide — you are not required to go to your home region)
  • Your preferred appointment date
  • Morning or afternoon session

Slots in Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo disappear within hours — sometimes minutes — of opening. Check the portal early in the morning or late at night when new slots tend to appear. If your preferred branch is fully booked, consider a satellite office in a nearby SM or Robinsons mall — these branches handle the same full service and are usually less crowded than main offices.

Step 5: Pay the NBI Clearance Fee

The total NBI clearance fee in 2026 is ₱155 — broken down as:

  • ₱130 base clearance fee
  • ₱25 e-service/system charge

This total applies regardless of which payment channel you use. Accepted payment methods:

  • GCash (fastest confirmation within minutes)
  • Maya / PayMaya
  • Online banking (BPI, BDO, Metrobank, UnionBank, Land Bank)
  • 7-Eleven (via Cliqq kiosk or Cliqq app)
  • Bayad Center (over-the-counter or online)

After payment, the portal generates your NBI appointment slip with your reference number, branch, date, and time.

Note: If you qualify as a first-time job seeker under Republic Act 11261, the ₱155 fee is fully waived — including the service charge. You must present a barangay certificate confirming your status on the appointment day.

Step 6: Save and Print Your NBI Appointment Slip

Screenshot your appointment slip the moment it appears on screen. Do not rely solely on the email confirmation. You can also log back in anytime to download the slip from your application history.

Bring either a printed copy or a clearly visible screenshot on your phone. Some branches scan the QR code on the slip at the entrance, so make sure the screen brightness is high enough to read.

How to Pay for Your NBI Appointment Using GCash

GCash is the fastest and most reliable payment method for NBI appointments across all regions of the Philippines. Here is exactly how to do it:

  • Open the GCash app and log in.
  • Tap “Pay Bills” from the home screen.
  • Search for “NBI” in the biller list.
  • Enter your application reference number from the NBI portal.
  • Enter the exact amount: ₱155.
  • Review and confirm the payment.
  • Save your GCash transaction receipt (screenshot it).

Go back to the NBI portal after payment — confirmation usually reflects within 5 to 15 minutes. If it does not update after 30 minutes, keep your GCash receipt and contact NBI support before attempting to pay again. Paying twice creates a duplicate payment problem that is difficult to resolve.

Warning: Never send GCash payments to personal numbers or unofficial accounts claiming to process NBI appointments for you. Only pay through the official NBI portal’s payment flow or through GCash’s Pay Bills feature directly.

NBI Clearance Renewal: Quick Renewal vs. In-Person Renewal

This is where many applicants get confused — and the original steps they read online are often wrong. There are two official methods to renew your NBI clearance, and they are completely different in terms of cost, process, and who qualifies.

Method

Branch Visit Required?

Fee

Quick Renewal (Online)

No

₱155 + delivery fee

Standard In-Person Renewal

Yes

₱355 (₱330 + ₱25)

So, Quick Renewal is the best option if your clearance was issued after October 2016 and your personal details have not changed. It saves you the branch trip entirely.

NBI Clearance Online Renewal

How to Renew NBI Clearance Online

Quick Renewal lets you renew your clearance from home and receive it by courier at your registered address.

  • Go to clearance.nbi.gov.ph and log in.
  • Click “Apply for Clearance” and select Renewal.
  • When asked if you have a previous clearance, select Yes.
  • Enter your NBI ID number from your old clearance certificate. This links your new application to your existing biometric record.
  • Verify that your personal details are still correct. If your name, birthday, or address has changed, Quick Renewal will not work — book an in-person appointment instead.
  • Enter your delivery address carefully. This is where the new clearance will be mailed.
  • Pay the fee online. Delivery costs approximately ₱200–₱350, depending on your location, added on top of the clearance fee.
  • Wait for delivery — typically 5 to 10 business days.

Note: When your clearance arrives, open the envelope immediately and check all printed details before signing the delivery receipt. If any information is wrong, refuse the delivery and contact NBI support.

How to Renew NBI Clearance In-Person

Use this method if you have a HIT on your record, need to update personal information, or prefer to pick up your clearance on the same day.

  • Log in to clearance.nbi.gov.ph and follow the same booking steps as a new application.
  • Select Renewal when the system asks for your application type.
  • Enter your old NBI ID number when prompted.
  • Choose your branch, date, and time.
  • Pay ₱355 total (₱330 clearance + ₱25 service fee).
  • Bring your previous NBI clearance and two valid government-issued IDs to the branch.

Important: Clearances issued before 2014 cannot be processed as renewals. If your old clearance predates 2014, apply as a new first-time applicant instead.

What to Bring to Your NBI Appointment

Arriving without the right documents means a wasted trip. Ensure you have the following ready:

All applicants must bring:

  • NBI Appointment Slip: Printed or digital (must show Reference Number/QR code).
  • Original Valid ID: At least one (1) original, government-issued ID that matches your online selection.
  • Photocopy of ID: Required at some branches (e.g., SM North EDSA, Robinsons Galleria, Taft Avenue).

Accepted Valid IDs

  • Philippine Passport (DFA)
  • Driver’s License (LTO)
  • UMID / SSS / GSIS ID
  • PhilHealth ID
  • Voter’s ID or Voter’s Certification
  • PRC License
  • Postal ID (new format only)
  • National ID (PhilSys)
  • School ID + PSA Birth Certificate (for students)

IDs that will NOT be accepted as primary IDs:

  • Company or employee IDs (private)
  • Barangay Clearance or Certificate
  • Expired IDs of any type
  • Photocopies presented without the original

First-Time Job Seekers

To qualify for the FREE clearance under RA 11261, you must bring your Barangay Certificate confirming your status.

OFWs / Applying Abroad

Apply via the nearest Embassy/Consulate. They provide the fingerprint card. A fee of USD 25 usually applies.

For Apostille: No extra requirements at the NBI counter. Just get a standard clearance. The apostille process is handled separately at the DFA.

What to Wear for Your NBI Clearance Appointment

There is no official dress code from the NBI — but some practical rules apply.

Recommended Wear

Wear something decent and comfortable. You may wait 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the branch. Women wearing hijabs are permitted to wear religious headwear as long as their full faces are visible.

Items to Avoid

Avoid sleeveless shirts, slippers, and caps or hats that cover your face. Remove heavy accessories around the neck or face that might block the biometric photo capture.

Pro Tip: Bring a bottle of water, especially during peak months like January, June, and November.

How to Reschedule Your NBI Appointment

You can reschedule before your appointment date passes through these steps:

  • Log in to clearance.nbi.gov.ph.
  • Go to “My Appointments” or “Application History”.
  • Click “Reschedule Appointment” on your active booking.
  • Select a new date, time, and branch.

Can I change branches? Yes, you can change both the date and the branch during rescheduling.

Is there a fee? No additional payment is required if done before the original date.

Missed your date? If the date passes, you must book and pay for a new appointment.

Strict Rule: Appointments are non-transferable. Only the registered applicant can appear for the biometrics.

How to Cancel an NBI Appointment

To cancel, log in to the portal, navigate to your active application, and select Cancel Appointment.

Refund Policy

The ₱155 fee is non-refundable once payment is confirmed. Refunds are only issued for technical system errors such as double-charging.

If a system glitch occurs after payment, file a report through the NBI helpdesk and keep your payment receipt as evidence.

Can You Go to NBI Without an Appointment?

As of 2026, all NBI branches nationwide require a confirmed online appointment. Showing up without a booking will result in being turned away at the door.

This policy applies to all locations: main offices, provincial branches, and mall-based satellite offices. Booking your appointment online takes only about 10 minutes and removes all uncertainty before your trip.

Can You Go to NBI Earlier or Later?

Recommended

Earlier (Same Day)

Arriving 15 minutes before your slot is ideal. Some branches may process you early if the line is moving fast, but arriving hours before your time block is generally not accommodated.

Not Allowed

Earlier (Different Day)

You cannot go on a different date. Your booking is tied to a specific calendar day. If you show up early (e.g., a day before), staff will send you back as your slot is not yet valid.

Conditional

Later Than Your Slot

Arriving 30 minutes late is usually fine if the queue is active. However, arriving 1-2 hours late often means the window has closed, and you will be asked to reschedule.

Safest Approach: Arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your scheduled time with all documents ready and follow the instructions posted at the branch entrance.

What Happens If You Miss Your NBI Appointment?

Missing your appointment without rescheduling in advance results in:

  • Your slot is forfeited and reassigned.
  • Your ₱155 payment is not refunded.
  • You must log back in and book a new appointment — paying the fee again.

A missed slot without prior rescheduling is treated as a forfeited application. The NBI does not currently offer a formal exception or emergency rebooking process; the practical solution is to restart the process from payment.

Pro Tip: Set a phone calendar reminder 2 days before and the night before your appointment. It takes 20 seconds and saves you ₱155.

What Is a HIT and What Do You Do About It?

A HIT is one of the most common sources of confusion and panic among NBI clearance applicants — and it is much less alarming than it sounds.

A HIT is NOT a Criminal Record

A HIT means your name matches another record in the database. Because of name-based searches, common Filipino names often trigger this status.

When a HIT appears:

  • Your clearance is flagged for manual review and will not be released on the same day.
  • You must return on a designated date, typically 3 to 15 working days later.
  • You do not need to rebook or pay again.

Note: A HIT disqualifies you from Quick Renewal; you must complete an in-person renewal for verification.

NBI Apostille Appointment: How It Works

An NBI apostille is required for foreign use (immigration, overseas employment, etc.). The NBI issues the clearance, while the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) authenticates it.

Step 1: Get NBI Clearance

Book normally and select “For Use Abroad” as your purpose.

Step 2: Book DFA Appointment

Schedule a separate appointment at appointment.dfa.gov.ph.

Step 3: DFA Submission

Submit your original NBI clearance and pay the apostille fee (approx. ₱200).

Validity Note: Most embassies require a clearance issued within the last 3 to 6 months. Ensure yours is recent before applying for an apostille.

NBI Appointment by City: Regional Guide

All NBI branches across the Philippines use the same national portal at clearance.nbi.gov.ph. There is no separate website per city or region. During booking, you select your preferred branch from the dropdown list.

NBI Davao

High caseload area. Slots fill quickly, especially on Mondays and Fridays. Book 2–3 weeks in advance.

NBI Iloilo

Covers Western Visayas. Slots typically open at the start of the week; check early Monday mornings.

NBI Cebu

Extremely busy. If the main office is full, check mall-based branches (SM or Robinsons) for shorter queues.

NBI Baguio

Serves CAR. Smaller daily capacity; book early during peak months like January and June.

NBI CDO

Serves Misamis Oriental. Availability is generally better than in Manila, but it fills up during hiring seasons.

NBI Tuguegarao

Covers Cagayan Valley. Mid-month bookings are easier. Avoid the first week of Jan, June, and Nov.

Other NBI Branches Nationwide

The same booking process applies to all of these branches:

  • NBI Tacloban (Eastern Visayas)
  • NBI Naga (Bicol)
  • NBI Legazpi (Albay)

  • NBI Lipa (Batangas)

NBI Appointment Tips for 2026

Check at Odd Hours

Slots in major hubs like Cebu and Davao go quickly. Check the portal late at night or early morning when cancelled slots are released.

Use Mall Branches

SM and Robinsons mall-based NBI counters often have shorter queues and provide full services (photo/biometrics).

Pay with GCash

Avoid payment limbo. GCash confirms in minutes, allowing your appointment slip to generate immediately.

Match Your IDs

Bring the exact IDs you selected online. Using different IDs at the counter may lead to processing delays.

Frequently Asked Questions

Go to clearance.nbi.gov.ph, register or log in, complete the application form, verify with OTP, select your IDs, choose your branch and date, and pay the ₱155 fee. Your appointment slip generates after successful payment.

The total fee is ₱155 — ₱130 base clearance fee plus ₱25 e-service charge. First-time job seekers with a barangay certificate get it free under RA 11261.

Log in to clearance.nbi.gov.ph, go to your active application, click “Reschedule Appointment,” and choose a new date and branch. Do this before your original appointment date passes.

Your appointment slip (printed or digital), the original government-issued ID(s) you selected during booking, and a photocopy of those IDs. First-time job seekers also need a barangay certificate.

Your slot is forfeited, the ₱155 fee is not refunded, and you must book a new appointment. The NBI does not offer automatic rescheduling for missed slots.

Open GCash, tap “Pay Bills,” search for “NBI,” enter your reference number, and pay ₱155. Confirmation is reflected within 5 to 15 minutes.

Quick Renewal (online, no branch visit): ₱155 + courier delivery fee. In-person standard renewal at a branch: ₱355 (₱330 + ₱25 service charge).

Final Thoughts

The NBI online appointment system has genuinely made the whole clearance process manageable — as long as you know which method applies to you and you plan.

If your clearance was issued after October 2016 and nothing has changed in your personal details, use Quick Renewal. You skip the branch visit, pay ₱155 plus delivery, and receive your clearance at home within 5 to 10 business days. That is the fastest path by far.

If you are applying for the first time or need a standard in-person appointment, book early, choose a midweek morning slot, consider a mall-based branch to avoid the longest queues, and bring the exact IDs you selected during registration.

For regional applicants in Davao, Iloilo, Cebu, Baguio, CDO, Tuguegarao, or any of the other branches listed — the same national portal at clearance.nbi.gov.ph handles all bookings. There is no separate system per city.
